Not the gas

Last week I thought I was out of gas. The truck stalled out and once I gassed her up, we drove home. I was a little surprised, since I have put gas in several times, a gallon or two here or there, and I have only driven 60 miles in the five months since I have had it home. The truck has also idles for a few hours in the drive way during that time.

Still, if I have added 15 gallons of gas, and only driven 60 miles, then I am getting exactly CRAPPY miles to the gallon.

After a little family drive the other night that ended with pulling the truck home, I am now convinced that I was never out of gas in the first place. There is some other fuel problem. Possibly rust in the tank.

I installed a fuel filter a while back. This weekend I'll remove it to see if it is clogged up. Hopefully that is all it is.

Did you get one of those filters you can see through?

Perhaps you missed it in my blog where I said I had removed my tank. Surely that means it is time for you to do the same.

No on the clear filter. Several people told me to go with the bigger, cheaper, older style.

I have been trying to figure out how to blame this one on you. Thanks for helping me out!

Bigger cheaper and older?! No such thing when you factor in Ebay. I bought a see thru one for a few bucks, and installed it right outside the carb. I can now tell the quality of ge gas, as well as telling IF the carb is geting gas at all.

Hadn'th thought about that. At the parts store the clear one was $15 with two filter inserts.

The one I bought cost $3 and is as big as my fist. But it is a metal housing, so I guess if I really want to know, I'll have to cut it open.

My old carb has a little brass filter in it, too, so the big one is catching everything, hopefully.
